Short answer: food grants percentage-based stat buffs that last about 30 minutes. They are timed, not permanent. Mudtek calls food “the most important thing you can craft” — not for the hunger bar, but for the buffs before a boss.
Why food is the headline system
Mudtek’s own ranking of crafting outputs puts food at the top.
Official Design post, 20 January 2026
“The most important thing you can craft is food. Hunger and thirst are basic needs, and any cooked food can keep you satiated, but that's not the real reason serious players will care about cooking.”
“The real value of food is the percentage-based stat buffs, which are timed rather than permanent. On average, food buffs last around 30 minutes. Food can grant boosts like increased max health, concentration, stamina, regeneration, and even elemental resistances.”

Three properties are established in that passage, and each one has a consequence for how you play.
The buffs are percentage-based. Because they scale with your own stats rather than adding flat values, a percentage buff grows more valuable as your character develops. That is the opposite of how flat bonuses behave, and it is why food is described as mattering more at the endgame than at the start.
The buffs are timed. Mudtek contrasts them directly with permanence. A food buff is a window, not an upgrade, which means it is something you consume before a specific attempt rather than something you maintain permanently.
The buffs reach resistances. Elemental resistance on a consumable is the detail that makes food a serious preparation tool rather than a comfort mechanic. It lets you answer a specific damage type on demand.
The exact buff values
An official screenshot shows a food item’s complete tooltip, and it is the only place concrete numbers appear in public.
| Field | Value shown |
|---|---|
| Item type | Food |
| Effect text | Restores Nourishment. Grants 5% max Health and max Concentration for 30 minutes |
| Nourishment | 1800 |
| Health Up | 5% for 1800s |
| Concentration Up | 5% for 1800s |
Official Interface read
The values above are read directly from an official Steam store screenshot showing a food item's tooltip. This is the only food item whose numbers Mudtek has made public, and it is illustrative of the format rather than a complete food table.

Reading it closely produces several conclusions.
The tooltip states its duration twice, and the two lines agree. The effect line reads “for 30 minutes” and the two stat lines read “for 1800s”. Those are the same length: 1800 seconds is exactly 30 minutes. The interface text is small at native scale and easy to misread, so it is worth confirming on the image itself rather than trusting a second-hand summary of it.
Two stats are buffed, both by 5%. Max Health and max Concentration are raised together. Concentration appears repeatedly in Dimraeth’s systems, which suggests it is a resource comparable in importance to health rather than a secondary stat.
Nourishment is tracked separately. The 1800 Nourishment figure is the satiation value, distinct from the two 1800-second buff timers. Eating fills a need and grants a buff, and the tooltip treats them as separate effects.
Note One item, not a rule
Burrow Broth is the only food item whose numbers Mudtek has published, so it shows the format of a food tooltip rather than a food table. Treat 1800 seconds as this item's duration, not as the duration of food in general — Mudtek describes the system average as “around 30 minutes”, which agrees with it but is a separate claim.

What food is for
Mudtek describes a specific prep loop in which food is the deciding factor, and it is worth quoting because it doubles as a strategy.
Official Design post, 20 January 2026
“In endgame, a strong food buff can often be the difference between surviving a boss mechanic or getting punished hard for one mistake. The same goes for elemental resistances when you're preparing for a boss with a specific damage profile.”
“A common loop here is simple: you scout a boss that leans heavily into a specific damage type, then you come back to base and prep for it. You check your Crafting Codex for what you've unlocked, cook the meal that pushes you into the right stat or resistance breakpoint, eat, restock, and head back out.”

Two phrases in that passage are doing real work.
“Stat or resistance breakpoint.” Breakpoint language implies food is chosen to cross a specific threshold rather than to add generic power. The intended play is to identify what a fight demands and pick the meal that meets that requirement.
“The fight doesn’t suddenly become easy.” Mudtek is careful to cap expectations in the same paragraph. Food buys breathing room to execute mechanics, not a way to skip them. That framing is consistent with the combat design, where stamina management and reading telegraphs are the core skills.
The prep loop also explains why cooking is grouped with farming rather than treated as a standalone feature. A food buff is consumable, so maintaining one for every serious attempt requires a steady ingredient supply — which is exactly what farming provides.
How food differs from potions
Mudtek draws a clean line between the two consumable families, and it is the most useful mental model on this page.
Official Design post, 20 January 2026
“The main split here is long-term versus short-term. Food is your long-duration baseline power. Potions are your burst sustain and burst buffs.”
Source: Mudtek Steam announcement, 20 January 2026
| Food | Potions | |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | ~30 minutes | Burst, short-term |
| Role | Baseline power for a session | Sustain and burst buffs |
| Stats | Health, Concentration, Stamina, Regen, Resistances | Health, Concentration, Stamina recovery, damage |
| Consumed | Before heading out | During the fight |
The practical division is preparation versus response. You eat once before a run and drink potions during it. Food is the floor you set; potions are what you reach for when the floor is not enough.
Food in the wider loop
Cooking is the middle link in a three-stage chain, and it is worth seeing the whole thing at once.
| Stage | System | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Supply | Farming, animal pens, gathering | Ingredients |
| Conversion | Cooking | Timed percentage buffs |
| Application | Boss and elite fights | Resistance and stat breakpoints |
The store page confirms cooking’s place in the home loop with the same framing: “Return home to craft equipment, brew potions, and cook hearty meals that increase your vitality.”
For where the ingredients come from, the farming page covers plots, seeds and pens. For the consumables you use mid-fight rather than before it, the potions page covers throwables and cures. For the recipe tracker that tells you which meals you have left to discover, the crafting page covers the Crafting Codex.
