Short answer: romance is an official design goal — the store page promises “potential romances”. But Mudtek also stated, in September 2025, that there were no romance questlines or payoffs at that time. Both statements are official. Neither has been withdrawn.
Two official statements, three months apart
This is the rare case where a straightforward question has two official answers, and the honest response is to give you both with their dates.
Official Steam store page
“Deeper relationships unlock new conversations, personal quests, and potential romances. Invest materials in your allies' facilities to expand shop inventories, add new crafting services, and open more farming plots.”

Official Playtest summary, 19 September 2025
“NPC Reputation & Romance: Right now there are no NPC romance questlines or payoffs. The current content introduces many of the characters, but there isn't enough content yet to reach conclusions or payoffs.”

Read together, they are consistent rather than contradictory — but only if you respect the sequence.
| Source | Date | What it says |
|---|---|---|
| Devlog | 13 June 2025 | You will forge friendships and pursue romance; each bond unfolds through unique questlines |
| Playtest summary | 19 September 2025 | There are no romance questlines or payoffs right now |
| Steam store page | Current | Deeper relationships unlock potential romances |
The store page describes the finished intent. The playtest note describes a build that had character introductions but no relationship conclusions. The phrase “there isn’t enough content yet to reach conclusions or payoffs” is the key one: it frames romance as unfinished rather than removed.
What Mudtek actually promised
The earliest and most specific statement about romance comes from the game director’s Earlwood devlog.
Official Devlog, 13 June 2025
“NPC relationships are a core part of our design—in Dimraeth, you will forge friendships and pursue romance with those you meet, each bond unfolding through unique questlines and personal moments.”
“We know that character relationships and romance are a vital part of the RPG experience, and we aim to deliver.”
Source: Mudtek Steam announcement, 13 June 2025
Three commitments are made there, and they are specific enough to check against later builds.
Friendship and romance are separate tracks. The devlog says you will “forge friendships and pursue romance”, which implies romance is opt-in rather than automatic progression from liking someone.
Each bond has its own questline. “Unique questlines” means relationships advance through dedicated content rather than an affection meter.
Bonds include personal moments. The pairing of “questlines and personal moments” suggests both structured content and smaller scenes.
The studio also stated its motivation plainly: relationships and romance are “a vital part of the RPG experience, and we aim to deliver.” That is an acknowledgement of expectations rather than a feature announcement, and it is the closest thing to a promise in the official record.
Does romance exist in the current build
No official source states that romance content is implemented. The September 2025 playtest summary said it was not, and no later announcement has confirmed an addition — not even the Early Access content update, which lists quests and NPCs among the new content without mentioning relationships or romance.
That absence is meaningful. The September 2026 content update enumerates what Early Access added: a new race, a new class, two regions, world bosses, nine pets, furniture, equipment sets, crafting stations, base building options, “quests/NPCs”, new elites, new dungeons, difficulty levels, a skill tree overhaul and character customisation. Romance is not on that list.
How to read this. We are not claiming romance was cut. We are reporting that the last explicit official statement said it was not present, and that the most recent feature list does not name it. If romance questlines shipped with Early Access, Mudtek has not said so publicly.
The characters in the game
Six characters have official profiles, and they are the people any relationship system would draw on.
| Character | Role | Location per official source |
|---|---|---|
| Manga | Earlwood’s blacksmith | Guild Hall, Earlwood |
| Befr | Travelling merchant | Caravan in Earlwood Village |
| Tamsin | Enchanter | Settled in Earlwood |
| Eldorian | Elven adventurer | Guild Hall, Earlwood |
| Myrll | Exiled forest spirit | The edge of the forest |
| Alaric | Folk hero | No location given |
Two entries stand out for how much interior life Mudtek gives them, which is the kind of writing a relationship system needs.
Official Official website
Befr: “Beneath his cheerful exterior lies a surprisingly deep well of wisdom and mystery — he speaks of ancient forces, knows things he probably shouldn't, and has lived far longer than any ordinary trader has a right to. A true friend of nature who once spent a week living among Dryad sisters and claims the squirrels owe him favors.”
Myrll: “Exiled by the very forest she cherished, Myrll now lingers at its edge — silent, sorrowful, and far from the creatures she once protected. Her ethereal form, marked by doe legs and a fox's tail, reflects both her connection to the wild and the pain of being severed from it. Though her voice no longer sings, her presence is gentle, curious, and full of quiet ache.”

Two observations follow, and both are inference rather than statement.
Befr’s description is built on hidden depth — the classic shape of a character with a personal questline behind them. Myrll’s is built on grief and exile, which is the shape of a character with something to resolve.
We present those as patterns a reader will notice, not as evidence. Mudtek has never named a single romanceable character, and any site that lists romance options for Dimraeth is working from something other than an official source.
Unverified Named romance option lists
Searching all 30 Mudtek Steam announcements, the Steam store page, the official website and the achievement descriptions returns no character identified as a romance option, and no romance-specific achievement of any kind.
Given that Dimraeth's achievement list tracks 25 side quests and 9 pets but contains nothing about relationships, we treat named romance lists as unsourced. This is recorded as “no official match found”.

How relationships connect to gameplay
Romance is not the only thing deeper relationships unlock, and the store page ties them to concrete systems.
| Relationship outcome | System affected | Confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| New conversations | Dialogue | Yes |
| Personal quests | Quests | Yes |
| Potential romances | Relationship system | Yes, as stated intent |
| Facility investment | Shops, crafting services, farm plots | Yes |
| Sanctum recruitment | Settlement capability | Yes |
The store page puts relationships and facility investment in the same paragraph, which makes an important structural point: the people you befriend are also the people whose facilities you upgrade. Investing materials in an ally’s facility expands shop inventories, adds crafting services and opens more farm plots.
So relationships are not purely narrative in Dimraeth. A character you develop is a route to better supplies, which is why the NPCs matter even to a player with no interest in romance.
There is also a co-op complication worth flagging. The store page states that recruited allies stay tied to each world while your hero travels between worlds. Mudtek has not said how that applies to relationships or romance, so whether a bond belongs to your character or to the world is genuinely unstated.
The honest state of play
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Is romance a design goal? | Yes, stated in the devlog and the store page |
| Was romance present in the Sept 2025 playtest? | No, per Mudtek’s own summary |
| Is romance in the Early Access feature list? | Not named |
| Has Mudtek named romance options? | No |
| Are there romance achievements? | No |
| Can this page tell you who to romance? | No |
That is the full extent of what is verifiable. It is less satisfying than a guide with a list of options, but a list of options for content that may not exist yet would be a fabrication, and this site does not do that.
For the characters themselves, see the Earlwood page, which covers the NPCs based in the starting village. For how recruited allies feed into your settlement, see the base building page. For the story those characters are part of, see the story and lore page.
